Deaf & Sign Camp
(1st-12th Graders)
These two new
camps will actually work together to share God’s word with children and youth
who are hearing impaired as well as teach others how to minister by learning
American Sign Language. Throughout the week, campers will be educated on how to
include one another in the church community. April Beard is an elementary
school teacher and interpreter for the deaf at Bryantsville UMC. She is
also a wife and mother of four. Her son Alec is profoundly deaf and
attends Kentucky School for the Deaf. She has been working with campers
who are hearing impaired for 9 years. Darren Gillespie also has a son who attends KY School for the
Deaf, and Darren works with April on the Special Needs Ministry team of the KY
Conference. Both families believe it is God’s will to minister to all people,
no matter their ability or disability! Normal camp adventure activities will be
included in the week.
