Maintenance S.I.T.
What does a Maintenance S.I.T. do? A Maintenance S.I.T. will spend the day working side by side with Loucon’s Maintenance Director, Benji. Though everyday is different, common tasks include grass cutting, weedeating, grounds clean-up, minor repairs, and anything else to keep our 550 acres looking great!
What is the advantage to becoming a Maintenance S.I.T.? There are two advantages to becoming a Maintenance S.I.T. First, it gives one invaluable experience and an idea of what a full summer a Loucon would be like. One will learn skills in lawn care, repair, plumbing, etc. Second, it gets your foot in the door. If one later decides to apply for a summer staff position, he/she has experience that the other applicants do not. Plus, former S.I.T.’s understand how Loucon works and have “paid their dues”.
What age campers will I be working with? Loucon campers range in age from rising 2nd graders to seniors in high school.
How long is the employment period? A position as a Maintenacne S.I.T. is a nine week commitment. There is one week of mandatory Staff Orientation and eight weeks of summer camp.
How many Maintenance S.I.T.’s will be hired? The number of Maintenacne S.I.T.’s varies year to year based on need and the quality of the applicants, but usually around 1 or 2.
What are the requirements? Loucon will consider any male or female who is a follower of Jesus Christ. Maintenance S.I.T. applicants must be at least 16 years of age.
What does the job pay? Many consider the pay of this job to be the only drawback. Regardless of the pay, the experience as a S.I.T. cannot be measured. It is a ministry position with opportunities for growth in all aspects of life. If you still want to know, it’s $20 a week for first year S.I.T.’s.
What do I do if I’m interested? One can download the Summer Staff application from the bottom of the forms page or contact the Director, Warren Hopper at Warren@Loucon.org or call 270-242-7160. All applications are due by March 1, 2008.
