Alpha Camp - Week 1
Activities Available To This Camp
The Zipline is one of Loucon's most loved adventure activities and often many groups' favorite experience. Harness up and enjoy the ride!
For Retreat Guests: This is a 2 hour activity for groups of around 20. Participants must be in fifthgrade or older.
Similar to Low Elements, Team-building games are designed and facilitated to bring groups together as a team as well as grow spiritually. Staff utilize equipment and innovative games to teach and bond.
For Retreat Guests: Typically a 1-2 hour activity for fifth graders and up.
On a hot day, nothing sounds better than cooling off in the pool! Loucon operates the two pools at the onsite Shaver Aquatic Center. A Loucon lifeguard is required for this activity.
For Retreat Guests: Swimming sessions can vary in time by group needs and availability. Pools are open seasonally and are typically closed after the first weekend in August.
Located at Loucon's own Moss Tower, a session of rappelling can do wonders for bringing a group closer together and stretching them emotionally and spiritually. Rappelling will challenge participants to face their fears and invest in one another.
For Retreat Guests: This is a 20 person, 2 hour activity for those seventh grade and up.
Loucon's mega slide is an awesome activity for campers of all ages! Bring your swim suit and take a ride down this 200 foot water slide.
For Retreat Guests: The mega slide is a 1 hour activity without number restrictions. It can be scheduled for longer amounts of time if desired and is subject to weather cancellations.
Low Elements is a great way to bring a group together and turn them in to a team. Loucon's Low Elements course is designed to help groups work with one another as well as grow personally and spiritually. Participants utilize teamwork, trust, communication, and many other skills to get through the challenges, obstacles, and puzzles facing them.
For Retreat Guests: This is a 2 hour, 20 person activity for fifth grade and up.
Loucon's High Ropes Course is a team challenge course that takes place 30+ feet in the trees and guaranteed to bring teams closer together and challenge them in new ways! This activity is great for youth groups, leadership groups, businesses, and any team!
For Retreat Guests: The course takes approximately 4 hours and is limited to 20 participants per session. Participants must be in the ninth grade or older
Loucon Folkdancing is a tradition among both summer campers and many of our retreat guests. A Loucon staff member teaches each dance before starting the song; no dancing experience required! This is a great activity to loosen up the group and leave them begging for more.
For Retreat Guests: A folkdance session lasts about an hour and can be for any size group (the more, the merrier!) Ability to facilitiate this activity is dependent on size of group and space available.
The Dangle Duo is an excellent activity that fosters communication and team trust. Participants climb a giant, suspended ladder to reach the top rung, stand up, and grab the wire above them. This is done by only using each other's help and the assistance of facilitator belay. The Dangle Duo is constructed so that the rungs get further apart as the participant ascends.
For Retreat Guests: Participants must be seventh grade or older. This is a 2 hour activity for 16 people.
Moss Tower, home to both climbing and rappelling, will challenge group members to stretch themselves, while their team learns the value of support and encouragement.
Participants climb on a traditional vertical wall where they will learn some fundamental climbing techniques and attempt to reach the top of the tower. Advanced climbing groups may request our advanced climbing wall, which adds overhangs and convex climbing to the challenge.
For Retreat Guests: This is a 2 hour activity for 20 participants fifth grade and up.There's nothing quite like a campfire at camp! Keep warm, play music, and have some s'mores. Loucon has several fire circles for groups of different sizes.
For Retreat Guests: All fires must be built and started by our Loucon staff and attended by at least one guest at all times. Loucon can provide s'more supplies at $1.50 person, or groups may choose to bring their own supplies.
