Vacation Retreat
Activities Available To This Camp
Similar to Low Elements, Team-building games are designed and facilitated to bring groups together as a team as well as grow spiritually. Staff utilize equipment and innovative games to teach and bond.
For Retreat Guests: Typically a 1-2 hour activity for fifth graders and up.
On a hot day, nothing sounds better than cooling off in the pool! Loucon operates the two pools at the onsite Shaver Aquatic Center. A Loucon lifeguard is required for this activity.
For Retreat Guests: Swimming sessions can vary in time by group needs and availability. Pools are open seasonally and are typically closed after the first weekend in August.
Hayrides at camp? What could be better? Enjoy this wonderful tradition together under the beautiful Loucon sky. Bring along a blanket and go star-gazing after!
For Retreat Guests: Available to all ages, maximum of 40 allowed on per ride. May last from 10 - 45 minutes depending on availability and group needs.
Loucon Folkdancing is a tradition among both summer campers and many of our retreat guests. A Loucon staff member teaches each dance before starting the song; no dancing experience required! This is a great activity to loosen up the group and leave them begging for more.
For Retreat Guests: A folkdance session lasts about an hour and can be for any size group (the more, the merrier!) Ability to facilitiate this activity is dependent on size of group and space available.
Participants of all ages may use canoes, paddle boats, or both in this traditional activity held on Loucon Lake.
For Retreat Guests: Activity time can be 1-4 hours, depending on availability and group preference. A Loucon lifeguard must be present to facilitate this activity.
There's nothing quite like a campfire at camp! Keep warm, play music, and have some s'mores. Loucon has several fire circles for groups of different sizes.
For Retreat Guests: All fires must be built and started by our Loucon staff and attended by at least one guest at all times. Loucon can provide s'more supplies at $1 person, or groups may choose to bring their own supplies.
About this Camp
Vacation Retreat, a long-standing tradition at Loucon, was created for developmentally disabled adults ages 18 and over. During their time at camp, vacationers participate in a variety of recreational activities including swimming, crafts, hiking, games, folk dancing, music, and field trips. Vacationers feel the love of Christ as they are surrounded by assigned buddies, Loucon staff, and fellow vacationers. It’s one of our favorite weeks of the year, and we’re sure our vacationers would say the same!
